CAPS Annual Meeting - Status Update
For obvious reasons, we could not hold our normal Annual Business Meeting in November.
We have had much discussion around how to do this safely and still have maximum participation.
You should now have received an email, if we have your contact information, about our plan for a Live/Virtual Business Meeting on Sunday, March 14.
We need your responses and input for this meeting.
Please read the communication on the above 'OPPORTUNITIES' page and respond.
If your email has changed, please use the 'Contact Us' page and send us your new info.
This has been a challenging 12 months, to say the least. From a Camp Alkulana perspective, it forced a whole lot of creative thinking and formed a new 'virtual' mission! A one hundred plus year tradition of travel to the most wonderful place on earth to experience God's love and peace, was redirected to stay home, but travel over wi-fi to the people who bring that love and peace to life. God Bless Beth Wright and her team for keeping that true spirit and purpose alive for our Richmond area youth.
Former campers, counselors and volunteers who continue to support Alkulana's 100+ year ministry.
This past year also saw the passing of our oldest known Camp Alumna and the first voting member of the Camp Alkulana Preservation Society, Margaret Spain Fields. Ms. Fields came as a camper from the House of Happiness in 1931 and stayed as long as Mother Hazelgrove would allow. She sent her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to find their places in the "most wonderful place on Earth". She returned in her 80's and 90's to help feed a new generation of campers, as 'Granny Yum-Yum'.
We celebrate her life and commitment to the spirit and mission of Camp Alkulana.
